History

Paracletos was born out of first-hand experience of the need for pastoral care for missionaries. After returning from the mission field, Dave and Irene Lewis launched a new non-profit dedicated to caring for missionaries. In 2002, they began the process of incorporating Paracletos as a 501(c)(3) to help equip the body of Christ for the ministry of caring for those sent out as missionaries.

For the next four years they worked within the context of a local church in central Florida to develop the concepts and vision that would guide the activities of Paracletos into the foreseeable future. They developed a seminar for churches called "Where There is no Pastor" to help them understand the issues that missionaries face on the field. They also began coaching teams of local church members to be advocates for the missionaries they send out.

Part of the vision included the provision of a place of retreat for missionary families while in the U.S. In 2006, Paracletos obtained property in southeastern Indiana and began the construction of Baan Sabai, a resource that can be utilized by churches and agencies looking for a place where their members can be refreshed and encouraged in their work. Baan Sabai began receiving guests in 2008 and continues to host a steady stream of visitors.
