Current estimates are that more than 6000 missionaries quit and go home every year for reasons that are preventable. Their environment may have changed from the familiarity of home to the strangeness of the field, but one critical area remains the same: they need to be connected to the Body of Christ in the same vital ways they experienced before they moved away. This is where an advocate team can be so effective. They can make all the difference between a missionary who thrives and a missionary who dies.
Members of an advocate team play a dual role in the overall cause of missions: They help to prevent unnecessary missionary attrition by coming alongside their missionary partners, and they work to ensure that their missionaries are never “out of sight, out of mind” back on the home front.
Many churches have the desire to provide spiritual, emotional and financial support for the laborers they send out, but often they lack the practical knowledge to carry out their desires. One of the most important aspects of our ministry is assisting sending churches in the formation and functioning of advocacy groups. We offer a seminar that details the importance of advocate groups, what they do, and how to create them. Once advocate groups are established we provide coaching to help equip the team to function effectively. Tools and links are also available in the Resources section of this site.
